How to Make Cold Brew in a Mason Jar

A mason jar is perfect for making cold brew. Not only does the jar seal well, it makes a great conversation piece as it sits on the counter for several hours.

Here's what to do:

  • Grind the beans right before you start brewing. You want to use a coarse grind size. The grounds should resemble very coarse salt.
  • Measure out the coffee. You want to use of ratio of 10 grams of ground coffee for every 100 grams (milliliters) of water.
  • Place the measured coffee grounds in the bottom of the mason jar and cover with the room temperature water
  • After five minutes, use the back of a spoon to push down any grounds that have formed a crust on top.
  • Seal the mason jar and place it in a cool location out of direct sunlight for twelve to fifteen hours.
  • Cover a bowl or second mason jar with a piece of cheesecloth. Unseal the brewing jar and slowly filter out the grinds. Warning: We tried sealing the mason jar with a coffee filter and it took forever. Don’t do that.

Pour and enjoy!
